Bretonian Broadcasting Corporation

In a surprise move the Bretonian Government has this evening announced the signing of an armistace agreement between the Admiralty of the Bretonian Armed Forces and representatives of the Molly Republic aboard the Battleship Essex. According to the details of this agreement, all hostile action between Molly and Bretonian ships shall cease as of midnight tonight.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, the government outlined plans for a "peace conference" to be held aboard the Battleship Hood in Dublin later this month, with further details expected to follow in the coming days. At present the precise details of what negotiations have passed between the two sides to reach this point remain unclear, but the government statement did make mention of a "recognition of the right to self-determination" of the inhabitants of Dublin, a possible indicator that the government of Lord Mountbatten might be willing to go further than the failed Treaty of Dublin 2 years ago and grant what has been one of the main demands of molly rebels for many decades. It is not yet clear who the main instigators of this new move have been from the government, or how much support it has amongst the various power groups among the mollies or in Bretonia, including Carina herself, but most commentators agree that relations with mollies have been steadily improving over recent months due to forced cooperation over threats from Corsair and Kusari invaders.

In an apparently related move, the Home Office today announced the release of a number of political prisoners and suspected molly agitators, including the notorious O'Leary twins, recently convicted under the Terrorism Act for their hijacking of the BSS Sutton and their attempted bombing of Birmingham Station. The move has sparked protests from some opposed to their release, resulting in violent clashes outside the Home Office buildings in New Whitehall.

It remains to be seen whether this latest development can secure a lasting peace in the face of divisions that many consider to be insurmountable, but there can be little doubt that today marks a new height in Molly-Bretonian relations and potentially a major and much-needed success for the government of Lord Mountbatten.
