' Wrote:Unfortunately, I'm here to tell you everything that is wrong about your faction idea..
How about something good? nvm...
First off; Foreigners from Sirius being allowed into this group.. No. That would be absolutely unacceptable to the King and the Gallic Royal Navy. I guarantee you, the King, Prince, and Princess (all of whom have players roleplaying them) would all take an axe to your neck if you allowed Sirians into your ranks.
Foreigners from Sirius...exactly that's what a king would throw FIRST in a fight. This is why the legion was formed in the first place: So that french people stop dying in wars. A king (the one that founded the Legion) decided to use foreigners as cannon fodder.
Second; Using King Louis V's name isn't a good idea when someone is roleplaying as King Louis.. Get his consent to write what you say he did. To say he did something that Exile (the guy RPing as the King) never did would be powergaming, controlling someone else's character.
I have to agree with you here. We will contact Exile about this... or change something.
Third; The numerous references to yourselves being aces and the top-of-the-top of the Navy.. A mention here or there about being very skillful and/or well-trained is fine, but the number of times you remark about it seems highly egotistical for a faction writeup. What have you done to proven yourselves the aces of the Gallic Royal Navy? Those things you don't say until your faction has done things to back them up.
There's nothing wrong to roleplay arrogant fools. Even if they're no more than cannon fodder, they think they're the best.
Fourth; Having a Lord Mareschal rank, and having him answer only to the King... Sorry, that's already taken. The Navy as a whole has a single Grand Marshal, and that position is already filled by Lilith LaCroix, also RP'd as Exile. The Grand Marshal is the leader of the entire Navy. The leader of the Foreign Legion would be someone of a high, but not that high, rank. And he'd be answerable to the King -and- Grand Marshal.
The legion is independent from the Navy. The leader ONLY responds to King's will. If the chief of the Navy wants something from the Legion like a co-op strike, then he will address the King first.
Fifth; Having a commoner in control of the foreign legion. Not realistic. Positions of power within Gallia, including the Navy, is based highly on your caste. Nobles comprise most of the upper echelons, and the few who are there but aren't nobles, earned their place through merit. Being the descendant of a person who controlled the Foreign Legion centuries prior isn't sufficient. You'd have to have your character prove their competency before ever getting a position like that.
The arrogance common to french people that think that a family name makes them something. This is plausible. (But we will have to discuss with Exile about this, too)
Sixth; "... King Louis V. felt more threatened than ever and saw the end of Gallia by Sirian forces coming near." This isn't fitting in at all with current Gallic lore, or with the current character of the King. The King and the Gallic Royal Navy are both supremely confident that they will be able to handle any threat from Sirius. If they were afraid Sirius could crush them so easily, they'd be focusing on defense, no offensive. Gallia's self-imposed isolation wasn't because of fear, but to make sure they were able to work in secret until ready, without the other houses knowing of them. Having the strongest military in Sirius, Gallia is far from 'fearful' of Sirius. Quite the opposite.
Correct... again. We will revise this section.
Seventh; Having any sort of nobility rank for the Foreign legion wouldn't make a whole lot of sense either. Nobility status is inherited, not earned. Who is a noble doesn't depend on military rank, and one can only go from commoner to noble status by the order of the King.
This is much more in keeping with the Legion Etrangere in my opinion. The original Legion was based on the Roman concept of Auxilaries, or Barbarian Legions. Foreigners who would serve the Empire and eventually recieve citizenship and a little land far from Rome.
This is Gallia... not the Roman Empire. And NO, no one will receive citizenship for serving in the Legion.
The Legion in my outline would most likely never be allowed closer than the border worlds, even after they acquired citizenship. This Legion is staffed by sergeants (PCs), and commanded by seconded Gallian officers. They never have a ship bigger than a GB, and only one or two of those.
There is a lot of good stuff in this proposal as well, but I found it a little top heavy to be an effective tool for the monarchy. Because that's what the Legion is, a tool. The Legion is a gang of misfits in pretty uniforms. While not criminals, they are not as polished as regular Gallain Naval pilots. They have an extremely high level of espirit des corps, and will do anything needed to accomplish a mission objective, or protect a brother Legionaire.
So, no Caps, no Lords or Ducs, no Grand Marshall. Just foreigners dying as common soldiers for the Gallic crown. THAT is a true French tradition, and one that even a Xenophobic King and court would latch onto. If you think you can get more paranoid and xenophobic than the Roman Empire, pack a lunch!
Like I said before... Caps will be used only by HIGH ranked officers (that will always be gallians). Lords and Ducs... you're right here. Grand Marshall, stays, leads, responds ONLY to the King.
I am not trying to slam anybody, or start a faction to run. I just want to fly my Irish Legionaire, and maybe have company...
Give us your skype ID and we can chat more about this. This is opened to modifications and/or improvements BUT we will not RP how others like just coz that's how they like.
