The story is good and it fits perfectly to my future RP plans. I didn't read all the posts, only the first and the last few pages. As expected, there are two groups. One that can't wait for 4.86 and one complaining or being critical about this. I for myself will wait for 4.86 not only because of gameplay reasons but also concerning interesting RP aspects.
Gameplay:
If 4.86 is as fun as 4.84 and 4.85, why shall it not be released? What are you afraid of? Starting with a new char? Rerouting your fleet to another base? Are you really so much afraid of changings? Listen folks, i know that I am only the new guy in this forum but as a gamer with over 25 years of gaming experience I tell you that a game needs some kind of sequel, even if it is a mod. Think about it. If you managed to get the best weapons/equipment, brought the story to an end, in case of open-end titles like FL having explored all the edges of their world space, and finished all what needs to be done, then a game becomes unevitably boring because you think "Yeah, there's nothing to do now here...".
In that case, the game becomes dusty in your shelve because it is not interesting anymore. So what about long-term motivation? What about telling yourself "If i do that part different, i will do the other part even better"? Let us call a spade a spade: we are all enjoying the exploring part of a game and not the done-with-it part, aren't we?
Yes you all are right by thinking about the fact that most gamers including me play a game with goal to finish it and to see it's end. Therefore I ask you what happens after you see the end of the game? Do you put it into your shelve hoping that one of your friends suddenly finds it and says something like "Wow you got that game? Awesome man, really awesome!". If you ask me that is not the reason why games are made.
I mention this because I experienced this situation once (and only once). Enough being carried away now, BTT:
In case of RP:
I do not care about the political development of Sirius. This is how I play the game. If a full-scale
war is about to break loose, then it is paradise for my char. You see, I was always playing like a merc.
That means to get my hands on (acceptable) good equipment, receive the creds, which was bargained and
signed in my contract, and after solving it seeking out a new...erm...customer:D. So I chose to play with
a Merc ID. I cannot imagine myself flying through Sirius as a cargo jockey, despite the fact that such chars
getting rich far more earlier in their career (depending on their actions). War was and will always be a good
business market. Conflicts will bring conflicts, new hatreds and alliances will rise. The ones with money will
pay enormous amounts of credits for escorts. On the other hand the Pirates will use the chaos to loot
unprotected guys. As you can see, the game itself will NOT change that much.
CONCLUSION:
In the name of fairness, give 4.86 a chance to prove itself and start complaining afterwards. All we know about it now is just wild speculations based on a written story. Do not forget that the developers will not
suddenly disappear after releasing 4.86. If they get feedback (which they desperately need and that is why the forum exists in first place), then there is always an opportunity for an update, don't you think?
I do not want to flame anyone. I only speak in general terms and for myself. If you disagree, state your opinion without flaming and do not keep your opinion for yourselves. Like i said, I am just a freshman.
