Allow me to point out the flaw in this logic.
Disco = game =/= real life. Game = supposed to be fun =/= one side completely and utterly has the advantage over the other side = one of the sides doesn't have much fun = they stop playing that side = an important part of the game gone.
EDIT: In other words, there's an essential thing that all games need, and that's balance, and this change drastically throws off the balance.
Allow ME to point out the flaw in YOUR logic, Sterlin.
I've been pushing for this philosophy for years. And I don't FLY a power pirate. So that's strike one, you're making an assumption that everyone pushing for this is a pie-rat.
Disco = role-playing game ; and traders having the exemptions that they have are not role-playing as what they are supposed to be, which is BIG, JUICY, TARGET! So we'll call that strike two.
Balance - if anything, this restores the balance to what your ships are supposed to be. You want to haul cargo through a pirate infested sector? Now you actually have to do something about it, instead of blithely sailing on, because you know that you're effectively immune from attack - or from the consequences of your own actions. Strike three, you're out.
As I said earlier - give it a chance. Heck, this makes some trading sound even MORE fun for me, because now I'll have to pay attention when I go through the trade lanes. I'll also have to keep an eye on the player list so I can tell who is in what system, and plan accordingly. In other words, my trader is going to have to ... gasp! - ROLE-PLAY as a TRADER, instead of just flying from point A to point B, hit trade lane, read a book while going, redock, keep flying, keep reading ...
In all seriousness, you're now whining. Stop it. Grow up a little, m'kay? Life isn't fair and balanced. Heck, I play poker semi-professionally in real life. It's a game - but it's certainly not balanced and fair, is it?
