Remember that most successful factions don't start out with an ambition to be official.
Just have fun.
Do what your interested in, and what makes you happy.
I would doubt it would become official anyway. At the moment it's more of a Skype chat for independent pirates to organise together, but I hope it'll evolve into something resembling more of a faction. But everybody involved is still an independent pirate.
And of course it's all for the fun. But recently there have been more incidents where I'm just utterly ganked, and I know other pirates have the same problem. And since independent pirates can be quite vulnerable against a sizeable force, sticking together would probably give us more of a chance so it would be more fun.
And my indie pirate pretty much keeps me playing Disco right now.:P
