I think you need to look at this logically. Where else would you have sent them? The other houses wouldn't have helped for fear of alienating liberty; the allies in the Golden Chrysanthemums that I believe you meet(I haven't played Vanilla for some time) don't have the resources.

Actually, their slaves either die on cardamine plantations or just die elsewhere. This is nothing comparable to real population. But then again, it was already said in the beginning of this thread, and guess what, nobody cares and just goes on chanting about outcasts being new chinese.

Less are born, but they live more than twice as long; without knowing the length of fertility, judgements can't be made. Even assuming it is the same, that doesn't mean the population hasn't grown.
