Resistance was futile as the few remaining 'soldiers' that fought so hard in their own passive way were cut down by the ever-looming maw. Their soft, defenseless 'shell' were no match for the continuous mashing that they are being put through. A searing blaze of invisible heat scorched through their very beings, their insides turning to a brown crisp. A deafening bang is heard and an unforgiving gale begins to chill the very core of their beings. The maw opened to give these fallen ones their sweet release from their torture and their silent pleas were unanswered.
Inspector Adam Savins happily crunched on his crumpet before he heard Commander Silsbury on his headset for a position report. He quickly responded, and went back to his snack, taking a cursory glance at the small dots that indicated the constables moving this way and that, pausing at some points.
"Constable Hansen, do not worry good sah, as I'll be continuously monitoring whatever in the bloody depths is happening down there." the Inspector said off-handedly, staring at the other crumpet.
"Ah good to hear, Inspector. We are given the authorization to move in, correct?" came the reply.
"Hmm? Yes.. yes.. your group along with Constable Roberts are to head in at once." Adam said, distracted as curiously picked a piece of hair off his snack. "Use whatever force is necessary and.. oh you've got to be kiddi----"
"Sir? Everything alright?" Hansen inquired.
"No Constable, everything is not alright. I dropped my snack, its all over the floor and controls, and its bloody well making a mess, the crumbs are in the microphone and I haven't eaten it. You're cleared to go. Commander Silsbury made the order and the scanners are clear! Now unless there is anything else, -please- feel free to radio to this frequency, or better yet.. I'll radio you.. its free you see Ha ha! Now if I don't see these dots moving within the next few seconds, the next crumpet I find, I won't be eating it.. no.. perhaps a better place for it yes? How about to a crevice of your being that is so seldom seen, that I seriously doubt even the damned nine hells themselves wouldn't go near it? MOVE Constable!" snapped Adam.
Down with the ground team, Constable Hansen and the rest of his team were desperately trying to find some cover from the unrelenting rain. Putting the comm device close to his ear, he was straining to hear his superior's orders as a constant squeal was interrupting the comms.
"Understood sir. We're moving in as per ordered." he simply replied and with several hand signals, moved his team out.
Adam kept the Hussar hovering as best he could as the constant rain and sudden gusts of wind made it difficult to steady the ship. A small, insignificant worry began to creep in the Inspector's mind as he could not see his ground team through visuals and had to rely on his scanners. Pushing the thought away, Savins regained his composure as his units began moving in. Zooming in at other locations, he saw Inspector McArthur's men also snaking their way to the target area.
"Everything will be alright Jeeves. I'll get another crumpet when this is all over and well... you'll be staying here." Adam said, looking beside his control panel, to his inert companion.
The pitter patter of the rain hitting the ship's blast shield was all that answered him.
"You're usually wrong anyways. Besides.. watching these dots go around is fun."
