Being hostile to your chosen PvP target's aligned NPC faction group has always been a server rule. Not being able to dock on NPC bases aligned to your target has always been a server rule. It has always been each individual player's responsibility to ensure that his rep sheet us adjusted accordingly for those he/she choses to be hostile with. While it was a rep juggle in the past when I was an active hunter it was far from being inconvenient.
It is rather interesting to see these guidlines being rules. Agmen is right that back before I focused on GMG| and was an active hunter we followed such a structure regularly as S/D before even forum bounty requirements came into being. Used to always have rep adjusted, used to always declare my intent to work contracts (yes back then we managed to RP contracts with houses and companies even when it wasn't required), used to always post my successes for payment etc.. This current list is still a watered down set of guidelines compared to what we used to operate with voluntarily. The work was never an issue as to why I am rarely hunting, far from it I love putting work into my RP efforts, it's merely that running GMG| had proven to require even more work from me then these guidelines-turned-rules.
Now I am feeling a little indecisive concerning my feelings towards new rules, as many know I am never to keen on more and more rules and any hint of police state mentality. Yet I still have a little chuckle in me, as I always have, for those few who are not willing to put RP work required to fully play the role of a Hunter and yet still want the wide range of targets and large ZoI the ID offers.
This is concerning the BHG ID and the RP background of this Freelancer NPC faction. As for the Merc ID.....it's a generic ID slapped in the mod along with a few other generics. I have no comment on the development of ID's not associated with Freelancer NPCs and lore. They have no background to Freelancer and thus are left to each individuals whims and I am not getting into territory since what one merc is another merc isn't. It's the effed up situation of those add-on IDs, nothing to base it on but a cacophony of different opinions. (Note that the Freelancer ID IS part of the Freelancer setting and thus is the only true generic ID I see fit but I also feel that due to the introduction of other generic IDs the Freelancer ID loses it's place as an ID tailored for RP not adhering to the other NPC faction associated IDs, but abuse is also an issue). This isn't to say that I won't RP with a generic ID carrier it just means I am not touching the dev aspect of those IDs with a 10 foot pole.
