Name: Malcolm Blacknest

History: Born on a Freeport in Zoner space, Malcolm Blacknest was the son of a Liberty Police officer, Zora Mckane, and a Rheinland Naval pilot, Karl Landshecke. Rather than give him either one of his parents biological names, the name they placed on the birth certificate was completely unrelated to either one of them, as the romance they shared would not have been looked well upon by the family's of either side, had they found out about it. Even back then, there was a distrust between the two factions, and many did push for war. Three years after his birth, Zora was killed in a police action when three Liberty Rogue ships that she and a fellow officer were placing under arrest, destroying both her and her partner. Karl, shaken by the loss of his wife, took his son back to New Berlin, his home planet, where he raised him with the rest of his family, never telling them who the mother was.

Seven years later, when Mal had turned ten, on his birthday, he received news of the destruction of the Rheinland Cruiser that his father had been stationed on. Now living with his uncle, a welder in the New Berlin shipyards, Mal slipped into two years of depression, running away from home once, joining gangs and starting an habitual use of drugs that could only be sustained by minor thefts here and there. Eventually addicted to Cardamine, Mal was discovered with a stash of the drug by his uncle, who placed him into a youth rehabilitation program. Eventually, Mal was done with his drug habits, and he grew to love his uncle almost as much as his father, though he would never give up his memories of his dad.

At the age of nineteen, Mal and his Uncle used his father's remaining credits, which had been placed in a trust fund for Mal when he grew older, to buy a small cargo ship, and start their own business. It was moderately successful, and within a few years, his uncle had made enough credits to retire, selling the ship and buying a new home in one of the more luxurious parts of New Berlin. Mal, on the other hand, had enjoyed the business of trading, the challenges of haggling prices with uninterested vendors. He also enjoyed the neutrality that such a job gave him, remembering the deaths of both of his parents. Although he loved both of them, though his memory of his mother was weak, he decided to follow a different lifestyle and try to live his life to the fullest, as much as he could. To this end, he has sought out the Zoner's Trading Consortium, application in hand, with the hope that he might be reviewed for entrance.
