Population fail @ disco

The populations in disco are kinda really not in this world really.

Britian 800 years ago had a population of less than 4 million. And it is now over 60 Million. Thats with war, high birth rates, low birth rates, influx of migrants, slave trade and many more factors.

If a sleeper ship held in the tens of thousands region the whole entire population of sirius (including Gallia) won't be any where near 50 Million. I'd doubt it would even touch 20 Million nor 10 Million. The number one reason as to why Sirius's actual population being so low would be because of high education and the willingness to work more than breed more. (meaning likely parents are not likely to have a child before they are 30 or older) High health also reduces birth rate, and there are alot of common goods easily accessable in Sirius which further reduces the need for a population, thus reducing the need to make babies.

I could easily work out a typical birth rate through the times through Sirius but each will only turn out a small number compared to any country today.

The other main reason for no sudden increase of population in Sirius would be due to lack of war, and lack of natural disaster's.

Overall the reasons why Sirius's pop would be below 10 Million are:
Great medicine
Great technology
Great education
Social need of work
Social lack of violence
Lack of war
Lack of desease
Lack of natural occurances
Loads of easily accessable common sustainable requirements (water, food and Oxygen)
No Social restraint's
Lack of need of populace

All these will make parents decide to plan for a child later. A longer life period does increase population but however if it is the norm it won't increase by much. Though is at high risk of making the population decline. Technology makes life easier, and increases health, increasing the health of the population making it easier for later planned pregnancy. And due to technology again, resources and education you get better health as well as the social structure of only wanting to have one child.

Many first world countries have small birth rates. Like the UK, Germany. If you was to make a comparision from sirius to a first world country. You would find that Sirius birth rate and population increase's will be smaller than any first world country. Thus making such a population of 40 Million on Manhattan a complete impossability as there is no need for sirians to really think about having a child. Even with laws stating to women in sirius they must have a child, there would be only a slight increase in the population of Sirius during that time where the law is in effect.

So basically if the population of a sleeper ship was 10000-99999 you wouldn't even reach a population of 10 Million in 800 years with 6 Sleeper ships. Might be able to break the 10 Mill barrier with 100000-999999 souls on each 6 sleeper ships though.
