They aren't better as such than VHF's.

I don't agree with that. Flown right, a light fighter can become a real threat to even VHF's, but especially for bombers. Combined with nukes and a good set of weapons they are better than most people would think, but if flown -right-...That's pretty much the condition. Your advantage is the speed and strafing, try to stay behind the enemy rather than jousting it and light fighters can become pain, especially in group fights.

But of course, they are mainly used as scout ships, which makes most sense inRP.

My prefered light fighter...hm...I'd say Scimitar. I didn't fly a lot LF's but that one worked best for me. Capaple of mounting a forward firing turret which gives it more firepower than other ships in it's class.
