Hybrid Project Performance Evaluation and Combat Report
The purpose of this report will be to establish a comparative report of the Odin Red Hessian fighter versus our own Insurgent. As we are all very familiar with the Insurgent, I will concentrate on the Odin and its capabilities, as well the effectiveness of our weapons when used in tandem.
Basic Shape
The comparison will start with the spaceframe of the vessel. As opposed to the Insurgent, the Odin has a slimmer profile thanks to its horizontal focus of design rather than the vertical focus of his SCRA counterpart. This allows it to dodge enemy fire more effectively especially when combined with vertical strafing maneuvers. When turning while under fire, horizontal evasive maneuvers work better utilizing the slim profile to present a smaller target while vertical maneuvers present the entire length of the ship as a target. It is my opinion that this is a superior design when compared to the Insurgent's.
Maneuverability
In terms of speed, the Odin is a winner hands down. It can turn faster, is lighter, and has a faster strafe speed thanks to its more robust thrusters and reduced mass. Combined with the aforementioned slimmer profile this gives it a maneuverability edge over the Insurgent. A skilled Odin pilot can literally run circles around and dance through shots of an equally skilled Insurgent pilot simply due to taking advantage of this edge.
Firepower
The Odin and the Insurgent have the same firepower potential. They have equal capability and number of turrets. However, this is one area where the Odin falters. The reactor core is significantly weaker and our weapons which require great amounts of power to fire consistently drain it one and a half seconds slower than the insurgent when using the standard complement of two Dragunov SVD-2s and four Kalashnikov AK-2 guns. The use of the quicker Dragunovs as tracers when shields are down is not recommended in an Odin. And while one and a half seconds less of sustained fire is not a long time, within a battle it can sometimes mean the difference between finishing off an opponent.
Electronics
The optics of the Odin and Insurgent are comparable. Both have easily modifiable sensor suites that are standard for multi-mission aircraft and the quality of optics is relatively the same, given the extensive nature of Coalition and Red Hessian collaboration in equipment design.
Combat Effectiveness
The following is a combat action report. The incident in question was with the Rheinland Military with the terrorist Joker arriving with two of his thugs shortly before the last RM pilot was shot down.
The incident occurred during a combined fleet movement including the Havana, Trotsky and Social Credit with Red Squadron and Sub Lieutenant Alex Orwell providing fighter escort. This combat action report will focus on the combat action seen in the Hamburg system.
Two RM Valkyries were engaged by Alex Orwell and myself. The two RM pilots did well to keep their attacks coming from multiple directions. Even with SLt. Orwell's best attempts to dodge them, he was shot down. This prompted the Social Credit to jump into the fight, separating one RM pilot from the one I was concentrating my fire upon. The Social Credit made quick work of its target, while I engaged the other fighter.
During this time the Havana, Social Credit and Red-2 continued fleet maneuvers while the Trotsky remained. An RM bomber appeared on the scene shortly after and started bombing runs on the Trotsky. However, Captain Warner's crew effortlessly dispatched the bomber, annihilating it with a mortar blast when it's shields were down due to my fire. I returned my attention to the fighter, and finished him off.
It was at this point that the Trotsky was engaged by the terrorist who calls himself The Joker. Attacking rashly before his bomber support arrived, the Trotsky effortlessly destroyed his Tridente gunboat. The Trotsky claimed another kill by shooting down one of his thugs, while I took down the bomber that arrived too late to help.
The Valkyrie is a quicker and smaller fighter but has less firepower than the Odin. However, the Odin's own maneuverability allowed it to greatly negate the Valkyrie's advantage, and brought its superior firepower to bear quicker than an Insurgent would.
During the fight with the Joker's Tritente-class gunship, its greater ability to dodge and smaller profile allowed it to more effectively dodge gunboat class turrets giving it greater endurance when facing such a class of ship.
Conclusion
It is the opinion of this report that the Odin Red Hessian fighter, while having it's drawbacks, is a superior fighter to our own Insurgent. While it cannot deliver as much damage as it can receive, it can escape it much greater ease and can bring its sights to bear quicker on an opponent when counter-attacking.
