Roleplay mapped down to the game instruments leads to a crippling because this game doesn't provide extensive game mechanics not related to ships and guns. The basic tool for the start of roleplay are affiliations, but it's only a rudiment. The affiliations together with their goals must still be put to some kind of sense. If all the reasons which are tought to make sense are reduced to PvP again, it's actually the crippling of roleplay.
Well, if you put it that way, I have to agree to an extent...
But at the same time, the way it works here makes it easier for people to screw you over and ruin your fun, I'd much rather go play DnD.
