Replacement for the Zoner Carrier?

I don't know why people consistantly place their hangers on a carrier at the prow of a ship. That's quite possibly the worst place for the fighters to launch from when the carrier is in distress. Not only is it the point of focus for enemy fire in a head on capital ship battle, but the carriers turrets will also be blazing, making the launching fighters launch straight into the cross fire.
