Unfortunately, FPXV's 16 biodomes were removed because people whined about it blocking docking of battleships that decided to auto-dock instead of use the quickdock points. It is supposed to have 16 biodomes, they were removed for this version, and are planned to be re-added next version in a new arrangement. (Though probably 8 domes, not 16).

But when you take into effect layers, that 3rd dimension does come into account, making volume important. If you apply the math in my post, half of the volume of the biodome is removed to account for space not available to be used as land for growing. This includes the space between layers. The final number is pure space of growing land available, no matter how it is arranged.
