Message Body:
This is Gefreiter McDowell reporting on an interesting and rather amusing scenario that presented itself earlier.
I was in command of the civilian transport known as the Maelstrom, which is my personal vessel for off-duty movements. I encountered a group of pilots led by the commander of the RNC-Leipzig in the Hamburg system, responding to an alert beacon from forces stationed in high orbit over Planet Hamburg.
The presence of a Libertonian Dreadnought - the Yorktown - had been detected and the alarm raised. I attended the scene beside the allied forces consisting of the RNC-Leipzig, [RM]-Ge.Rheinhart.Weiss and [RM]-Ge.Ludwig.Meyer in my civilian transport in order to gain information on the vessel.
Upon becoming aware of our presence the Liberty ship opened fire without hesitation - catching me in his firing arc. I was at that point left with no choice but to retaliate. The battle was relatively short, but extremely intense - our lightweight-in-comparison cruiser suffering numerous rounds to her hull - yet not relenting in the slightest at doling out the same to the enemy dreadnought. The two bombers in attendance created precious distractions allowing my transport to bring her limited firepower to bear on the Libertonian craft - making a small but notable contribution to its' eventual demise.
The Yorktown was brought to its demise with no loss of life on our own side. The survivors of the subsequent explosion have been relocated to Vierlande for "processing".
Although my ship did sustain some minor damage, it was restricted to non-essential components which can be replaced at any time. The core power supply and life support systems are intact and unaffected by the damaged auxiliary fixings. It is currently idle in Braunschweig awaiting a repair vessel.
The entire scenario was recorded through my sensor arrays and the footage can be viewed via. the following hotlink to the internal data bank:
