.:Topic: Detailed report about Omicron Expedition II:.
.:Compaignon: James:.

---Aspects of the chemical-biological side of the Omicrons---
---Chapter One: From Sigma 17 to Omicron 74---

Guten Tag SRD!

James and i started to a second expedition to the Omicrons. Since the mapping is largely completed by the first expedition, our goal now is to explore planets, nebulae and anomalies from their physical, biological and chemistrical side. James and i seperated the work so everyone can focus on his special field; but in the end, all our research will be fusioned. Lets begin:

Sigma 17:

Sigma 17 contains, from the biochemical side, one very interesting spot: Planet Kurile.

Kurile is surrounded by a high-radioactive cloud. The planet is characterized by a medium size and is completly covered by water; one giant ocean. Its atmosphere is useable for the human organism; enough Oxygen is granted.
Though the atmosphere is usable for organism, the ocean isnt. The water is highly saline and contains a large, toxic amount of Acids (Can be seen in the chemical reaction below). No organism is known in whole Sirius, besides Extremophiles, can live under such circumstances. The onliest organism on Kurile which can resist this aggressive enverimont is the Kurile Bacterium. Its characteristics:
- Monoculture (Onliest life form on Kurile)
- Aerobic (Atmosphere and water contain Oxygen)
- Metabolism (Metabolizes Hydrochlorid and Oxygen to Hydroperoxyd and Chlorgas)
- Pioneer-Organism (Can be used on any planet to initialize terraforming)
- Weak point: Radiation (Water protects Bacterium from radition of the Kurile Nebula.)

Kurile Water Chemistry:
NaCl (Saline) + H2O (Water) -> NaOH (Natriumchlorid; Basic Acid) + HCL (Acid)

Kurile Bacterium Metabolism (Energy production):
2HCL + O2 -> H2O2 (Hydroperoxyd) + Cl2
(The reaction is exotherm; means, the reaction which happens in the bacterium emmitates energy which can be used by the bacterium to run their organism)

Since the Kurile Bacterium resists these strong acids, i took a closer look on its genes. It appears that the structure and the resulting protein synthesizing are completly different to anything i have ever seen before.
The triple-helix and the structure of the mitochodrium give the stability to its genes and membrans. Exact biochemical processes analysis weill still take some time.

All in all, this Bacterium is a metabolical, extremophile pioneer-xenophile.
It is possible that higher beings will evolve out of them; in million of years, Kurile can be a planet full of water life. But it may takesome time until Kurile Bacterium can form colonies, so called Ventrix.

Omicron Theta:

Planet Vespus and the giant Organisms

In Omicron Theta, the first thing we saw were giant, simple organism floating in space. Such space organism are known in some part of Sirius already. They get their energy by using the radiation of the nebula and run their household with the consistances of the nebula, too.

Inside one nebula, the planet Vespus is located. Its far distance to the white dwarf (25k), the aggressive nebula and the atmospherical consistance makes life impossible on this planet.
The atmosphere consists out of noble gases like Neon an Argon, which are very unreactive. Since such an amount of energy would be needed to metabolize them so no effecient usage is possible, no metabolizing organism can be found there.
Maybe Zoners or GMG will show high interest in this planet to mine its noble gases.

Those two researches were relevant. We docked in Freeport 15, Omicron 74. Tomorrow, we will proceed
our expedition tomorrow.
