Nova's and their like

Not to start wrong comparsions or anything but I like the way things are implemented in Freespace. Bombers are tough bulky ships with big profile, designed to do massive damage to capital ships they are so weak against fighters and interceptors. Highly maneuverable, agile and quick interceptors were useful to defend large ships by destroying enemy missiles before they hit and effectively dispatching enemy bombers once they were close enough and the interceptors were protected by the anti-fighter beams from the capitals. But both fighters and interceptors were useless against enemy capital ships, they are easily sliced by anti-fighter defence. Of course Freelancer is a different game and should follow it's own path but I'm just saying that there are examples out there with one of the right ways to do the things.

Don't get me wrong but I'd like to see things a bit different, as it stands now the main weapon against the capitals is energy-based, thus limitless and non-interceptable. Sounds a bit wrong to me, but that's just me and my opinions, I understand perfectly that there might be better solutions to it or simply other ways which are just as effective. Now if I were to do changes I'd probably make it ammo-based, slow and interceptable, in addition some other variants that would differ by amount of damage dealt, speed, delay and maximum payload, giving opportunity to bombers to select weapons based on their role in the group, for example close-range hull damagers with slower torpedoes and high-range bombers carrying EMP-class weaponary to keep the shield down while the first subgroup brings the enemy capital hp down. Thing is it involves a lot of testing, balance fixing and perhaps leads to some other problems that were covered by it previously, so may be it's best to remain as it is.
