This "rule" was put up by a former admin in the hopes of reminding people on this server to not be asshats to each other. It was set up to remind people that we're all here to have fun, and that it's up to everyone who plays here to be a part of everyone else's fun.

0.0 isn't really a rule. 0.0 is a guideline that people should follow. If you want a real rule to quote, use 1.2. I have put into bold the important part for you

1.2 Server administrators will impose sanctions on players for violating server rules and for any actions that harm server gameplay.

There have been sanctions before on...lets call it over-zealous piracy...when a sanction report was turned in for such. If you feel you've been wronged by a pirate, pics and report. But don't be a Karlotta when the admins do not deem your sanction report worthy of action. Accept that you might be wrong, or there isn't sufficient evidence, or that you're the one being the asshat in that situation.

Anomander, I see your interest in roleplay when trading is close to zero. All you are interested in are the digits at the end of the run.

As a trader you are supposed to be crapping yourself when you meet pirates. There must be something to loose otherwise what is the point?
It's the same as pew pew, how much fun would it be going into a fight knowing that ships are invincible?

As for this. OF COURSE he's interested in the credits at the end of the run. Just like a miner's interested in the credits at the end of a shift. Just like a pirate is interested in the credits at the end of a session. We're all in search of the almighty credit.

It's not really as easy as you think to get on your trader/miner (miners especially) when you're looking to make some credits (as we all do) and also roleplay. As a trader, you're passing through a system. A short time doesn't give you a chance to interact with those in that system meaningfully unless you're willing to take time out of your schedule to sit and chat. Same with a miner. The more you type, the less you're making as Mining is an interactive activity, much more so than passive trading.

With a pirate, you're still after credits, but in a different sort of way. You (the pirate) want the encounter over quickly so as to lessen the risk of help being called or help randomly showing up. You're looking out for your bottom line both during the piracy and in repair/restock fees if you get into an attack. Both parties, as you can see, are interested in shortening the scenario in some respect. That being the case, is it any wonder we've come to "2m plz" "no u" "pew pew" "I sanctun ju"?
