Betchell had been fidgeting with the toys on his desk for the last hour, stopping every minute or so to twitch and stare about fearfully at ambient sounds. Having found the optimal arrangement for his workspace he mopped his brow with an already sopping Valentino kerchief, and opened a line to his assistant: 'Alright Joan: check around once more for me; then I'll be ready to come outside.' He crawled his way to the office door he had braced with a Rodin statue and chairs, and began dismantling the jumble. Minutes later Joan's voice sighed over the Comm 'It's still all clear doctor.' Betchell cracked the antique door open an inch and peered carefully into the foyer beyond, before making his way carefully to the nearest piece of cover. Joan sighed again: 'Tarquin, really; we're going to be late: we need to make this meeting, remember?'
Betchell tweaked from behind a norfin detailed couch 'Did you hear that ?! wait'¦what? O feck, can we still make it in time?'
'Yes, we can; if we hurry. And remember there's that special room on the ship to keep you nice and safe. Plus these men we're going to meet are meant to be the best: you can rest easy after this.'
'Well'¦I suppose: if you trust them Joan... Here, I've drawn you this map of the safest route to the port and I want you to cover me with this' Betchell handed her a slim pistol with an etched slide, ornately patterned grip, decorated with silver plating. 'I'm ready!' Betchell announced as he strapped on a flight helmet. 'Oh: this is my disguise' he elaborated upon Joan's baffled stare, and the two made their maze-like way to the recently swept ship.
