How a player faction excludes a characteristic of the NPC faction

Well, okay, we have made it quite public as players that we are going to change our roleplay. The only thing that is concerning me a bit is that the usual mechanism - distinguishing between characters and players - is failing at you. On the one hand I am actually wondering how little you need to disrupt ongoing roleplay because of your applied consequences are obviously not reliably driven by roleplay, but on the other hand I understand that you're not on your usual turf, pixelhunting, so I would rather say, let us forget this little flaw. Flaws can be amended.
