He walked back in the room, the only sound made was the door sliding open and then shut. His own face red from his own tears, he walked up to her side and sat down, never saying a word. He watched the mother holding her now deceased child, crying harder with each passing moment, listening to her apologize over and over.
He hated this. A man committed to saving lives could do nothing, especially to someone as innocent as a newborn child. He could only look at the child for a moment as it made him think of his own daughter. He felt lucky right now, knowing that his own little girl was on station for a few days. He couldn't even fathom how he would feel if he lost her. He looked at the child again and then Emily and then he just hung his head in thought.

Finally, after minutes of silence that seemed like an eternity, he just softly said, "I am so sorry, Emily. But...."
He just sat back, to upset himself to continue. Yes, the death of a child was the one thing that he just couldn't deal with.
