He looked at her and just sighed. He briefly looked at the deceased child she continued to nurture and then back to her and softly replied, "I know I did."

He sighed again and looked at her, his eyes still red, "I know as a medical professional that there was nothing I could have done but do you know what bothers me the most? It's so unfair when children die, no matter how. Recently, I just processed the death certificates for two bombings on Freeport 9 and Freeport 1. Of the 800 deaths in those two incidents, half were women and children." He sighed again, "I've seen enough of it and seeing Katie not even have a chance well, that just sealed how I feel."

He looked at her, realizing that in all of the trauma and anguish, he had ignored her medical needs. Letting her continue to have her time, he stood up and began cleaning her up. Fortunately, such a small child left little mess. Still, he washed what was there, gave her an exam and then sat back down beside her.

"I have a request of you," he asked, "it's a bit odd but I like to have a face with ever death certificate I sign. I would like to take Katie's picture for my records. I promise that I'll make her look, well, Angelic."
He added, "If you need me to, I'll make arrangements for a proper service and burial."
He just sat again, "But, please, take all the time you need."

Although he said nothing of it and kept it hidden, he felt sorry for Emily. He felt guilty for not being able to do his job even if it wasn't his fault. He looked at her again and finally managed a weak smile of his own.
