I was referring to their location. Basically, I'm trying to draw parallels between the ability of denying a ship to dock with a base which can be spawned -anywhere- and taking down a lane. Which is an argument that crawled out of my behind, I don't know if that's what the dev team were aiming at.;)
EDIT: and all other points could be answered with: well, you were told in advance bases are supposed to be giant cash black holes.
You were talking about balance. From this compare, NPC bases are totally unbalanced. Of course, players can count with player base as a big black hole. They know it in advance. But they didn´t know about this change (btw - I don´t have base). Until now, they got two things: stuff that you can´t buy anywhere in game (cloaks, jumps, docking modules) and a place where they can save themselfs. What is unbalanced of it where it cost lot of time and money to maintain it? Now, they got only that stuff, no more shelter when are attacked.
As I said before, only result will be that all bases will be more hidden. No more trading bases, no more lawful outposts. More players who don´t trust anybody so they will run their base alone or only with few friends. I think this is a bad way.
Just to be clear - I like the rest of things about bases and I appreciate devs work very much. I just think that shield docking blocking is a bad decision.
