Over the year or so I've been around I've noticed a HUGE number of random people doing really random crap under the banner of this or that faction. I've seen IMG pilots trying to claim Omega 7 as their own domain, Rheinland Military cruisers claiming to defend New Berlin by locking down the entire system and shooting everything else on sight, and people flying around as floating brains.
Now it's a given: people play this game to have fun, and they can come up with random stuff to their hearts' content. But, on multiple occasions it's clear that some things simply wouldn't be done by certain factions; Rheinland waltzing into Sigma-13 and claiming its annexation and the like. So where is the line drawn for other people to put a stop to this on their own? Shouldn't we be allowed to apply roleplay punishments for roleplay actions?
Example:
I'm MND. There's a Rheinland cruiser claiming that it's protecting the planet by blasting all civilians. I can try to report the guy, but that won't stop him. And I'm an intelligence operative; what would an intelligence operative say to this? He would probably arrange for the cruiser's disabling, or destruction, given that it's a genuine threat to the populace.
But for whatever reason I've seen this frowned upon, despite the fact that it's a nonsensical non-canon thing to do. Others say only official factions have the right to blast their indies for doing such things, but not only are official factions not always around, and not always on the ball when it comes to FR5s, but I've also seen admins stopping official factions from preventing indies from doing such things.
So what's the deal? If a competent, roleplay-minded player with some kind of roleplay authority bumps into nonsense, shouldn't they be able to put a stop to it?
