Baby Steps: Raven's Talon

The funny thing about my freelancer career, that it all started with a Raven's Talon that I found with my dad. It just brought me a new way of thinking and new possibilities in life.



I was about 15 years old, maybe 16 and we were, as usual scrapping on the Texas system. Nothing unusual, just the same routine everyday, grab useful part, take the rest to Vieques to build more ships, while the top of my day might be a barely working wreck-of-a-ship that we could sell for a few more credits than usual. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of those days, just grab scrap and sell, no morals involved.


Anyways, as I was saying, while we where working, my dad happened to detect a weak SOS beacon signal. it appeared to come from the West Dallas Debris Field. I wanted to check it out, but my dad was a bt cautious, since the signal either seemed garbled, or it appeared to be some form of language that we had never heard. Nevertheless as enterprising Junkers, we can't let a good opportunity like that pass, so we went to check it out.


When we arrived to the area, we where marveled at the fighter, such a sleek, beautiful ship it was, so much different from the half-wrecks Junkers ship I had most experience with. Although I had seen it once before on the neural net. It appeared to have belonged to a pirate, but strangely enough, there appeared to be no signs of organic life inside. What the hell? maybe its was a wreck after all. My dad decided to go inside, but since the ship seemed to have a few systems powered, we used our Imp Debilitator mkI guns to drain the powercore of the ship. My dad cut through the ship's hatch to enter. he came out and said the ship had no security systems powered on, although it did have some strange guns and a type of shield that he had never seen before. the curious things is that he said the ship had writing all over the instruments in characters like this:

Even so, since I was riding as co-pilot on my dad's Recycler, he decided I should take the ship back to base. But why me? Why not my dad? Since the ship seemed in good condition, and the controls seemed about the same we where used to, flying with it shouldn't be a problem for me to drive it. Plus he knew I liked fast ships and at the moment the closest I had to fly with one was a Collector [and while it might be fast, pretty it isn't].


The travel back was pretty calm and slightly boring, since I was itching to test the ship, but we couldn't do those kind of maneuvers until we had throughly checked the systems at the Shipyard. Let's just say that I did took the ship through a few crazy flights after we fixed her up. And that time when we actually found out what the words written on the ship said . . . but those are a story for another time.
