Signs in front of j-holes leading to some guard systems contribute to immersion in RP envirnment. To whatever extent they would be effective in-RP doesn't matter, they make sense.
OORPly they lessen the frustration of newbies (that is those who actually want to discover things).

Don't hit them in the vital area!;)
Wrecks in front of holes leading to unlawful/super-duper-secret guard systems? Wonderful idea. Both lootable wrecks with infocards and unlootable debris (like capships in some of the debris fields). But let them be pointed outward, like if they were destroyed when running away from.

[16.02.2011 20:51:31] Richard.Ames: Guard system? Ooops, sorry.
[16.02.2011 20:51:48] TCG|Jackal: sorry? *smile*
[16.02.2011 20:51:50] Richard.Ames: There was no signs saying it is your property at that j-hole, you know?
[16.02.2011 20:51:53] Dead.Sea: Rivas : You could have identified yourself...
[16.02.2011 20:52:00] Juan.Villa: We will just crush your ship into small pieces and say: oops

[16.02.2011 20:54:48] Dead.Sea: Rivas : What were you doing here,anyway ?
[16.02.2011 20:55:04] Dead.Sea: Rivas : Spying for the Navy ? Messing around with Nomad tech ?
[16.02.2011 20:55:05] Juan.Villa: Good question Rivas.
[16.02.2011 20:55:06] Richard.Ames: I told you. The jump hole looked promising. And it wasn't on maps.
