In the cloudy system of Omega 52 Captain Liyang twirled his revolver while sitting in the Captain's chair of the CPW Tianjin. Major Lee departed in his fighter for a patrol and left his best friend and second-in-command in control of the vessel. A faint voice appeared over the comms, it was barely recognizable but the Captain knew that it was the Voice of Commissar General Ulrich Eichel. The Booming Voice Echoed throughout the Ship.
"Comrades,
The failed policies of Katz are not the salvation from the rightful rule of Volkhan. We understand that you have been misled by false promises. ...... The reign of Katz is over. The rule of Volkhan is at hand!"
"Oh my.." the Captain said to himself
Liyang stared outside of the window, lost in his thoughts. Sean Lee was his best friend ever since childhood, they have fought together many times and often call each other brothers. When Liyang joined the Coalition, Lee saved his life in many occasions, so has Liyang in return. The Captain got up from his chair and walked towards the communications station onboard the ship.
"Lieutenant Ding, contact comrade Lee. Find his location and hail him."
Liyang was confused of the current situation. Rumors had it that Premier Katz was overthrown by the new dictator who calls himself the Ikon. The Captain was worried about his friend and wanted to know if he was okay. Just before the Lieutenant attempted to contact the major a booming voice was heard again.
"This is Colonel Vasily of the new Ikon's Coalition. You are Captain Liyang correct."
"Dui comrade Colonel, what is it I can do for you today."
"There has been a failed coup de tat by rebel Coalition forces who still fight for the Premier, I do understand you as a person who is loyal to the true Coalition cause, am I correct."
the Captain kept thinking what was going on. Liyang started to sweat
"Yes comrade, I am"
The Voice was silent for a moment, then continued to speak.
"I regret to say that your longtime friend and ally, Major Sean Lee, has sided with the despicable Rebel forces."
Liyang slumped into his chair, shocked.
"No"
"I do apologize Captain, but he is no longer in command of the Tianjin, you are now the Commanding Officer. Get your men ready to join up with our fleet. We will plan our attack to crush the rebellion.... that is if you are capable of combat."
"O-of cource I am sir. Any pilot who mutinies from the Coalition cause deserves to die a traitors death. I am at your command."
Liyang could sense the Colonel smiling
"Good. Very good... oh and one more thing."
The pause felt like an hour, Liyang heavy breathing was the only thing that echoed throughout the ship.
“If you see Major Lee in the field of battle, will you hesitate to kill him?”
Liyang tried not to hesitate, but he could not hold it in. After 3 seconds he simply responded.
“No comrade.”
“Good, then prepare your men, and meet up in space in 0200 hours.”
“It will be done”
Liyang looked down in sadness. He could not believe what he had just heard. It was true…
But he was loyal to the Coalition and what must be done has to be done.
Lieutenant Ding was the first to break the silence. He suddenly jumped out of his chair. “You cannot believe him! We fight for Katz, not this corrupt little ba-“
The Lieutenant didn’t get to finish his line. His body slumped to the floor as a bullet wizzed right through his forehead and out through his brain. Liyang was still sitting in the Captain’s chair, looking out to the vast openness off space. In his right hand he held a revolver, with smoke creeping up from the tip.
Liyang sighed, then turned on his vessel-wide broadcast comms.
“This is Captain Liyang, your commander who we all loved and knew has betrayed us. I am now the acting officer of the CPW Tianjin. We now fight for the Loyal cause of the Coalition. If any of you does not approve of who we support, then you will be executed on the spot. We pledge our allegiance to the Volkhan. That is all, Liyang out.”
The Captain drifted into deep thought for a few seconds It all flooded back to him
.. child..hood…friends…….flight training…Lee..
He shook the thoughts out of his head. He must do what he had to do.
He pointed to a Coalition Officer,
“You, take over the Lieutenant’s post, and tell our gunners to rev up the cannons. We are headed out.”
