During a sortie with Her Highness, Alice DeFrance, a distress call was intercepted from an Ile-de-France Shipping Vessel, the Napoleon. Due to the Princess being engaged in matters of the state, I was dispatched to track the vessel and ascertain the nature of the emergency. While I was enroute, the Captain of the Napoleon, Yves Pinault, was able to raise me on comms, and alerted me to the situation unfolding in the vessel.
Whilst transporting convicted criminals, an event had transpired in one of the rear sections of the hull. A single man, with explosive strapped to his person, had taken the ship and its crew hostage. During the course of the brief conversation, Captain Pinault informed me that he, and most of his bridge crew, had locked down the command section. They had isolated the bomber to the stern of the ship, who by this stage was claiming to be affliated with the Maquis. Forming up with the Napoleon in an escort posture, I was able to relay this information to the Princess and Pauline Valence, who were fortunately already moving to intercept us. It was about this time when we learnt that the intended distination of the bomber was Nevers. Needless to say, that wasn't going to happen.
The decision was made to send Pauline to Nevers, via the Lanes, in order prepare the Planet's defenses as a precaution. Her Highness and myself, informed the Captain of his choices: Vent the final section of his hull or Have his hull vented. After assurances from Her Highness that we would save as many of his own men as possible, the Captain agreed to vent the hull. While the majority of the Captain's crew were tractored aboard our ships, 1000 prisoners were judged by the cold vaccum of space. It should be noted that Captain Yves Pinault showed a level head and exceptional fortitude when dealing with such a dire threat. His willingness to follow our orders, for the greater good of Gallia, is commendable.
After severals days of investigation, no leads have been uncovered regarding the alledged Maquis operative or how he was able to aquire the explosives. A review of IDF's security measures, for transporting living cargo, may be nessecary to aviod any further occurances.
