The future of mining?

Disco existed before the mining mod, and it will exist even if mining is never turned back on.
But the whole reason the mining mod was added was to make Disco better.
That it did, although there were some balance problems.
Beacuse of the problems people had with lolwuts, and with the mine/trade balance, they complained.
But they also put forth a plethora of ideas on how to fix mining.
[color=#FF9900]My question is, why did the administration team decide to simply get rid of mining, rather than attempt any sort of a fix, with hundreds if not several thousand ways suggested on how to do such?
Getting rid of mining won't improve player behaviour. I frankly can't see how mining is connected to behavior on any sort of fundamental level. A sanction-waiting-to-happen lolwut will be a lolwut regardless of whether he is a lolpirate, lolminer, or loltrader, or lolcap.
