The way it has changed from not drifting to drifting without Cannon actually changing drift behaviour itself suggests something in his recent coding has, meaning it was a mistake, that he is going to find out where the mistake lies, and try to fix the bloody mistake.

There are actually two things here:
Cannon wants to make it so that when you F1, your ship stops where it is, along with the other penalties for F1ing (such as shields going down).
While you're offline, he wants the ships to drift at a specific rate up to a maximum distance, but that's happening a lot faster than intended currently.
