My brother bought this for me because he was very excited for it.

The single player is completely frustrating. If you're familiar with sprite jumping in platforming games, that's what I would compare it to. I put most games on the highest difficulty because I enjoy the challenge, but this game is not challenging; it is tedious. Somehow, the AI always manages to land a grenade JUST within range of you to kill you, or it whips around and shoots you in the face almost instantly. The way it works is less challenging than repetitive, and really while games like Bad Company 2 have a difficult Hardcore mode in SP, it wasn't because the AI were very good at calculations, it was because level design and objectives were inherently difficult. The problem is confounded when the allied AI (who seem to have a 1/2 foot box around them which you can't enter) often get in the way when you try to move from cover to cover, escape a grenade, or get to the next checkpoint. The campaign feels a lot like Half-Life 2, and I found myself wondering why my flashlight wasn't turning on when I pressed F halfway through the game (incidentally that button throws C4). From where I am in the story, there wasn't really one moment where I didn't expect what was next. Even then, I couldn't advance the plot easily because a lot of times I was blocked by NPCs or invisible walls. Additionally, the sound it makes when you are hit with a bullet is something akin to a midget slapping it's hand on a fat man's stomach. Kind of silly.

In multiplayer, it plays like a Battlefield game with a CoD engine. Most of the success I've had has been from moving to an advanced position early, then waiting for unsuspecting enemies to run past, and lighting them up with my assault rifle (AKA camping). Actually engaging in active combat (that is moving from cover to cover, utilizing friendlies, basically anything besides camping, dolphin-diving, and spraying) has turned out to be pretty useless because there's a Sniper, somewhere who can magically see and kill you even though he's never in that position when you check it. The Battle Point system is very neat, though, because you can get what you want in a fight right there, instead of having to die, wait, spawn as engineer, etc.

Overall, I like Bad Company 2 better, in mostly every aspect. That said, it's not necessarily a bad game. The multiplayer takes a little bit of getting used to, but I am sure a little further into release, everything will even out into a more enjoyable experience.
