Indies; why do we need them/what is good about them?

I lol'd about the wording of the topic. But I agree with Pilgrim, this has the potential to turn into a firepit very fast.

As for good points on the indies: we officials had no one to recruit if there weren't indies around and trying to recruit someone for your corporation can actually create some nice RP too:P
