kk, firstly they allied with the Hessians because 'Tanis' was a Hessian and they decided that in order to help the oppressed that the Red Hessians were as good as any (becuase thats where they were currently). And ya i did kinda leave that part unconnected.

And they want to rid the system of the Houses becuase after what they did (killing all those people in order to gain their conquest) and haveing 800 years to think about it, they decided they didnt want such things to happen again.
