THIS is exactly what I wanted to reply.
You roleplay a character, not a ship.
And a general reply:
All the mining factions depend on people who need money. => your approach would kill all "moneymaking" factions
Your approach would up the Capital Ship percentage a lot => harmful to gameplay imho
Progress (improving from one ship to the other) is important for long-time motivation.
I haven't seen many Caps that are "roleplayed" well. They are huge things that die fast when seriously engaged. And that is it.
