It doesn't have any impact on a textured model.

It can actually. Unconnected verticies, even when sitting perfectly on top of each other will cause little seams in the model when flying in-game. Not noticable on a stationary object, but when it's a player ship moving you can definitely see it. Light can even be seen through some of the seams.

The best way that I know to look for these problems is to check for faces that are connected to more than 4 verticies. This is almost a surefire way to find unconnected verticies.

I can see it because I trained my eye to spot it. I'm pedantic when it comes to making my models. xD
Like I said above, the easiest way to see it is when a single face is connected to more than 4 verticies. That's usually a sign that they are not connected, even if they are places squarely on top of another verticie or edge.

The area circled in blue is what caught my attention, and needs the most work. The areas circled in green may also have the same problems, but I can't tell from the picture alone.
