But i have a question -

As an indie faction, do i need to go through some sort of process on the forums for some official setup? a pinned thread said something about needing 500mil, and somehwere else i read a faction needs at least 4+ members.

With this process you can become an official faction. However, because of the rule of one official faction per ID, [LN] is the currently the official faction of the Liberty Navy ID so you cannot create a faction creation request under the current circumstances. Just to note, there is an official LPI faction as well.

Furthermore, as Malenka said, you can use Liberty Gunboats with LPI Guard ID while having access to TLAGSNET which is an important asset for the kind of mission you are currently up to.
