Ganking

The general sense I get of the community's attitude is "everything is fine, expect when it is happening to me", correct?

Of course. The average member of this community treats the rest no better than they'd treat the NPCs. Yet easily yells 'ganking' if they are on the other side on the table. Double-standards like that make any attempts of promoting fairplay useless.

On topic, I voted:

Base defense & home system defense. Those occur rather often though, so "special circumstances" might be giving the wrong impression. One than that I personally would go for mostly even fights. For one it increases the challenge and secondly it also increases my own chance of getting a kill. If 15 people are shooting one target, only one will in the end kill it. And also getting ganked to an extend where all you can do is evading is no fun for the receiving end.
That however results in the question whether a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 situation, where you sure are able to shoot back, is a gank or not.
