Background Information: Born of a freelancer and a Rheinland officer on the cold planet of Hamburg, Matthias never really had what one would call a proper childhood. As his father was never around, his mother constantly on assignments, and his grandmother who took care of him died while he was still relatively young, Matthias had to learn how to be self-dependent and disciplined in order to survive. This independence often left him with a feeling of loneliness which, in time, he learned to overcome.

In school he was a brilliant student, motivated by the exploration of space, the interest for which is a trait he inherited from his father. In order for Freelancing to be possible for him, he continued to the Rheinland military academy which he considered a good decision as he thought it would give him a decent education in combat, tactics, logistics, engineering and other such things. This decision has since proven to be lifesaving multiple times.

He set out after graduating, doing minor tasks in order to earn credits which he would use to gain access to better equipment, and after several years of trading, flying through uncharted worlds and fighting off pirates and even aliens he got a message from his mother. She was dying, and even though Matthias spent little time with her, he valued the person who brought him to this world enough to heed her dying wish without any second thought, which was to join the Rheinland Military.

Respecting his mother's wish he rushed back to Rheinland, leaving his old fighter behind on Hamburg, replacing it with a wraith, and applying for a place in the Rheinland military. He was accepted, and soon enough he was flying through the systems, carrying out assignments believing they were helping the people. His blind following of orders ended when he was confronted by the Bundschuh officer Michael Wolf, in which he found a friend, and that is when it all began.
