Sometime in the 23rd century, Earth
After years of neutrality and peace, the small country of Switzerland could no longer sit while its kind was being wiped out. The Alliance could use all the help it could muster. The Swiss Army and Navy, along with all of its able-bodied people were called out for one last stand
Anton Malacos, a young lieutenant recruited onboard a German battleship was such a person. With the Alliances new hope, the Sleeper Ships, almost finished with construction, the raffle was on to see who might be the lucky ones, and who might not. Preference was given to those whose family served to keep them alive.
The Germans, a warrior peoples, had all but some gone to battle. Theyre closeness to the Swiss, not only by language, but also by servitude had granted few fortunate Swiss the rite of passage, but they were limited, horrifyingly limited. Many of their kind were not going to make it.
The family of one such Malacos was fortunate, but not all
Battleship Lufthausen, 2145824 hours, Bauendorf dock, Germany
Anton Kron waited in the main lobby to give his father the spirit-lifting news. They had been chosen.
Fater, Ich habe ganz gute nachrichten! Ir wart ausgevaelt fur die Rheinland!
( Father, I have very good news! You have been chosen to the Rheinland!)
The name Anton has been passed one to every elder son since one can remember, and it was destined to continue.
Das ist ser gut aber was passiert mit dir?
(That is very good news... but what will happen to you?)
Ich mach was ich mus, und was ich will. Fuer unzere leute forwaerd gehen und weiter leben! Aber fater, es gibt auch eine sache... Nur 2 von euch koennen gehen, die anderendie koennen nicht.
(I have to do what I must and what I want. For our people to move forward and continue to live! But father, there is one thing Only 2 of you can go, the others they can not.)
His face gasped as if a shockwave had pounded his lungs. Only 2 people This was good news indeed, but it was heart-crushing at the same time. Who will live and who will not They departed that day, not knowing what to think. Only two people will have a chance to continue, and the rest will not. They were 6 in total in their direct family, three of whom served in the war and one had died. The answer was easier than it seemed, for at that moment, they were lost.
Once the news was passed onto the family, they had no time to mourn, but to decide fate. The two sons serving with the Germans refused to leave, and the parents did not want to die before their children. It was then decided. Serah and Osis would go. But Osis would not let that happen. He made to the Lufthausen to meet with his brother.
Was soll das sein! Du must mitcommen, wir muessen alle gehen!
(What is this! You have to come, we must all go!)
Nein, geh, jetzt! Du must das fuer uns machen! Fuer deine leute! Ich hab fuer das voluntiert, und darum muss ich das fertig machen!
(No, now go! You have to do this for us! For your people! I have volunteered for this, and because of that I have to finish this!)
They stared at each other for a long time, until Osis punched his older brother in the face. Tears started to come down the side of his cheek. Anton pulled out his pistol and aimed it for his Osiss head.
Geh! Jetzt! Ich will nichts mer von das hoeren! Du machst was ich befele, ich will dich nicht mer sehen!
(Go! Now! I dont want to hear any more of this! You do what I command, and I dont want to see you anymore!)
He cocked his gun. Now tears started to come down his face too. Osis gradually stepped backwards towards the doorway until he was gone. Anton had never felt this way before. He lowered his gun, turned around and headed for the bridge. That was the last time anyone from his family ever saw him.
Short weeks after, the raffle was up, and boarding on Pluto was about to commenced. Osis woke up with his sister very early, left a note on their parents bedside table, kissed them on the cheek and left. They could not bare to stand the good-byes if they had been wakened. The two young kids scurried to the loading dock, were hundreds, no thousands of other people awaited their fate. They were transported to Pluto were they gazed upon the largest ships they have ever seen, and their home for the next hundreds of years. Soon thereafter they were in their pods next to each other. Oxygen masks covered their nose and mouth, and slowly the world began to turn black, and cold
