His crew did not share his vision of complete chaos: the last time they saw him was when they were let off at Freeport two with their pockets fat. Topper left with a group of fanatics, pledging to take their cause throughout Sirius. Toppers black-box & transponder were recovered from the widespread wreckage of a battle-site in Texas, there was no record of escape pod launch.
