While conducting combat training exercises, I received word that unknown Sirian ships had entered the Burgundy system. I was ordered to cease combat simulation and locate these ships, and determine their origin and purpose. Eventually, the ships were spotted near Dijon Station, cruising towards the Nievre asteroid field and the Council base located within.
Accompanied by GRN|Michelle.Picard, we gave chase and found the smugglers within the defensive perimeter of the Council base. They were offloading their cargo already, and we were powerless to stop them. However, we knew that the ships could not stay long, and thus devised a plan to trap them as they were leaving the station and capture or destroy the ships.
At this time we were joined by GRN|RNS-Valois and GRN|RNS-Maginot, a pair of gunboats which had been diverted to assist us. Maginot spotted a third smuggler and gave chase, while Valois rendezvoused with us and took operation command. I proceeded to the Lorraine jump hole with Valois while Picard stayed near the base to provide up-to-date information. Sure enough, the smugglers finished their cargo offloading and left the defensive perimeter of the base. Picard gave chase, herding the Sirian smuggler Kobalt towards the Lorraine jump hole and our ambush. Unfortunately, he caught wind of our trap and took off in another direction, but Valois managed to disrupt his engines, and we had him caught. The Sirian smuggler refused to surrender however, and attempted to escape. I opened fire and destroyed the ship, a "Borderworlds Transport" freighter.
A wing of Council fighters accompanied by a bomber and a gunboat launched from the Council base to attempt to protect the smuggler, but soon after we finished off the transport we turned our attention to them, and drove them off without any losses. We recovered some wreckage from the Sirian craft for analysis, then returned to Dijon station for debriefing.
Signing off,
Zoe Lefevre, Sous-Lieutenant, Gallic Royal Navy
