Ship idea, but not artistic at all

What do you think about a gunboat-sized ship that has 3 or 4 torpedo mounts?

Is this possible? I'm not literate at modding and ship designing at all, but I've had the idea in my head for a month. Actually it came to me while I was playing Sins of a Solar Empire of all things.
The "torpedo boat" would act sort of like a bomber on steroids. It's bigger, clunkier, and much slower, but is perfect for fleet support. It could fly in, launch torpedoes at enemy cap ships or bases, and fly out. I wish I had some sort of picture to post with this but as of right now I don't.

If anyone thinks it's a good idea, maybe I'll start looking into ship designing :)
