It does severely limit though. Do I choose particles or neutron? Do I choose efficiency or dps? Do I want low speed guns or high speed guns?

With your suggested changes it would be more like: Do I want the purple gun or the green gun? Do I want 2.00 or 4.00 (cause other speeds are just weird)?

I would prefer every faction with one gun getting an additional weapon to mix things up.
