It's a forum, after all, and this thread is here to discuss why he should, or should not, become an admin.

He did it on a GC tagged and IDed character, not Outcast. The said GC then defected to the Corsairs, it had a whole story behind it so it was perfectly acceptable. It wasn't just "lol screenshots", and if he wanted to mess things up for the Outcasts, he certainly wouldn't have posted the screenshots as just a secret report to Corsair council.

First, I'd like to declare that everyone is allowed their opinion. No matter what side of the issue that opinion is on. Also, it doesn't matter what gave that person an opinion. Anyone can have a negative opinion over the situation described in the earlier parts of this thread. I'd agree and did not like what happened in that incident. Anyone may speak their mind and say what gave them the inclination to have their opinion.. I don't think saying that an issue that has some people concerned about something as important as a person becoming an admin is a pointless debate and that people need to stop discussing it is a good move.

This is a discussion about a new admin coming in.. I think that ANY incident involving that player, no matter what it was about or when it happened, can be and should be discussed to its fullest. Telling people to stop talking about it is only silencing people's opinions, and I believe we do have the right on this server and these forums to speak our opinion. Unless the post in question is flaming or insulting, it has broken no forum rules and shouldn't be censored. Regardless of whether a post or posts are inflamatory and/or insulting, the discussion itself should not be called off-limits. Perhaps telling certain members of that discussion to calm down or stay out of the conversation if that person is becoming insulting would be a better response than slapping the admin hammer down no?

I don't like arguments any more than everyone else, but telling people they can't discuss this situation is, in my opinion, out of line. That 'one event' is just as important as any other event. Yes, I agree, stop the pointless bickering. State your stance well and in a neutral manner, and don't argue. But everyone has the right to state that stance.

And moving on to the other issue, don't label a faction based on the action of a player or players in that faction. That'd be like saying a faction is a rule breaking faction because one player broke a rule. Unless someone speaks as the leader of a faction and states that a certain opinion is the opinion of that faction, that faction has no opinion. Just like admins don't want personal opinions interpreted as admin opinions, or vice versa, a faction leader doesn't want his or his member's opinions taken as that of his faction's opinion.

And Hoodlum, your post is as inflamatory and insultive as everyone else's. You went right out and insulted 101st. So please don't tell others to straighten up in such a manner. And in your latest post your still labeling the opinions of certain people as those of an Outcast player. Why can't a person speak for themselves? Must they be labeled as an Outcast or Corsair? Perhaps this isn't an Outcast vs Corsair debate, but a player vs player debate about another player that is being considered for adminship. The only label of OC vs Corsair here is the label your applying to it. If you look at them as 'players' rather than 'players from this faction' you won't notice a factionized opinion, but a legitimate one of a person who DOES exist behind the name they use on these forums.


EDIT: @Blodo; Perhaps he is concerned that Laowai made that story with no input from other players. Specifically the GC and OC. What can we do when he makes a spy character, but there is no possible way for our 'characters' to learn about him? I could just as easily make an indie LN character, write a story as a spy, and then post something against the LN and defect, and there isn't a single thing the LN can do about it because I don't allow them in my story.. Thats why stories involving real PC factions, not just NPC factions, need to have the input of those factions, not just the player making the story.

GC = Cardamine addicts. A defection to the corsairs is about as impossible as the "outcast rebel" stuff some guy tried to pull a few months back.

Please explain clearly how he powergamed.
Because I saw that RP develop and it was after months of ingame roleplay.
He was in disguise and roleplaying a corsair spy quite well. No body else picked up on it.
That's not his fault.

He did not spoil the OC-Keeper relations. He did it all ingame with no "OORP" things that I can see.
Other people got upset about it OOC, and twisted the meaning and intent.

This is what I was talking to you about before. People do things well within roleplay and others get upset about it OOC.
Playing a spy is certainly within roleplay, and if nobody picks up on it then that is not the roleplayers fault. It is not powergaming.

What is metagaming and powergaming is taking something like what Laowai did, and getting upset about it on the forums, without dealing with it in-game. It's the political BS that goes on OOC when things are done ingame, and people squawk about it on the forums without understanding what is really going on. Without asking questions, by assuming stuff. Just like so many people have OOC assumed that there is a Keeper - OC alliance. There isn't, and never has been.

The corsairs INGAME were following up and gathering information INGAME on the suspected alliance. And from their findings they assume there is because "groups" dont exist INGAME, but the evidence INGAME, was that the nomads were flying nearby and joining in with OC battles, against Corsair battlegroups and home space. All things from my point of view where done properly and in order and INGAME.

OOC. I can tell you that there is no alliance. But the Corsairs think there is, which is a good roleplay aspect. It just adds another burning brand with which to incite the Outcasts against the Corsairs and vice versa.

Please explain clearly how you think Laowai powergamed. If you wanted it to remain private misgivings then you should have said nothing else after that first post. Not that it's relevant to him becoming Admin.

You need to separate the characters from the person. Laowai as a Corsair is not the same as Laowai the Admin.

He is polite, he gets work done, He's a gentle person with people. He seems relatively unbiased. He's reliable. All of those are good reasons for him to become an Admin as we do need more.

Because if it happened some 4-6 months ago, it is kinda pointless to bring it to the table. Use recent events, not old stuff that is now 6 feets below the ground

First off this kinda makes me sad. Eppy/Dennis first you say it's not that you dont think Ben is fit to be an admin, but instead that you dont think we need more admins now. Then when Del explains why we need more admins you go and say you dont like Ben as an admin. Which is it, or are you just trying to play which every argument you think will work best at the time?



I think the metagaming bit was the OC and the Nomads jointly attacking folks, rping out in the open in Alpha like things that happen over system comms in Alpha are secret. I think the metagamming was excepting people to ignore what you were doing. What Ben did was a way to bring RP to the rest of the server finding out what was so obvious to everyone.



And for that one incident you want him not to be an admin. How bout this, Ben is made an admin and you get a deathray... oh yeah, you already tried that on something else and it didnt work.



Honestly Ben does not deserve this, he has been a beacon of many things on this server, RP, level headedness and how Independents and Factions can work together. You are not being fair playing your own little power game, and trying to make him a pawn in it.

Did you even read the story? How do you presume to comment on something you have no idea about? His GC wasn't a cardamine addict, she was a passenger on a ship, and she was yet to have her GC cardamine rites of passage.

Besides, the way I know it, Cardamine addiction can be cured unless someone was born with it, like an Outcast. GC aren't born with it, not like it was a case of addiction anyhow.

Dennis, your argument fails. Congratulate yourself on swaying people for voting on Laowai for admin, showing how hateful some people can be due to ingame differences helped his cause more than anything else in this thread.
