As long as people respect the other extreme, everything should be fine. Let the PvP'ers do what they want, the RPer what they want, and if it happens they cross each other, respect each others etiquette. It's as easy as that. I don't think the main topic in this thead needs to be discussed further, as it will only result in more hatred on both sides.
Uh, if you are a rogue in a rogue faction, sucking at pvp is part of your RP.

In my opinion, removing conflict with enemies from your character's RP goes against faction lore for everyone except the most pacifist of Zoners, and even they can get legitimately shot at. You can't be forced to RP a certain way, but if conflict with enemies inevitably happens, yes you have to deal with it.
Do some people take it to extremes? That's a very subjective thing to quantify. Some people hate PvP so their limit would be quick. Some people enjoy it and their limit might not even exist. Subjective things cannot be reliably legislated.
I mean isn't it within RP for conflicting factions to shoot one another? Or are wars fought with tea-time parties in the disco universe?

The fact that we have RP in disco simply means that it's made more interesting for people to follow a storyline and at the same time limiting and pointing to what they're supposed to do ingame, instead of getting the best guns and ships and engage everything or anyone they want. (Omicron theta eagles with nomad guns, Freelancer vanilla)
Putting that into practice, as a Navy pilot, your duty is to rip and tear apart anything that isn't lawful within my ZOI, because that's what I am supposed to do and it's fully within what you fellas call RP. Whether it's a /1 /7 /10 or a whole book it doesn't matter as it's still perfectly within RP. Sure different people, different preferences and each will give you different approaches, but that's the idea of what a navy player is supposed to do and going by it is anything but wrong. Same goes for every conflicting factions in any situation. But that's not the point of this thread.
This whole "managed to dodge the bullet" mk2 thread and it's crap is because of someone's moaning. And now it's a thread of, you know that way of saying something in the general direction to make your point to someone (see what I did one sentence back? ;p ) and trying to get them to respond to you directly and try and make them look guilty? Just spineless bullcrappery and hypocrisy. Worse than the junker drama even.

There should be
-places where people can RP in a perfectly safe way (created by game mechanics, not by rules),
-places where there is always PvP going on other than Connecticut because conn is boring (created by bases of factions which are hostile to each other and which aren't 100k+ away from each other, and more liberal engagement rules),
-and places where moneymakers are concentrated, yet spread out enough to be piratable in hit and run tactics (trade concentraded onto a few routes again, and not equally spread out all over Sirius, and several mining fields of equal yield not too far from each other).
Sadly, the population is to low atm to always fill all 3 kinds of places all the time, except if there was only 1 or 2 of each, which would also be boring in the long run.
Hit the nail on the head. Both are a part of the game and environment, but some people like to disregard sportsmanship and work with the bare minimum of the rules. I won't argue fair play in PvP because I won't even consider it as valid arguments when it comes to balancing fights. It's a waste of time because no matter what happens people are going to whine.
It's the internet, and people suck.

there is a such thing at Night Stalker Universe mod. Now look at it's activity.
