So, I tried these missions. I made a new char. Got him a Core VHF and tried the missions in Delta. All of them were against huge groups of gunboats... so yeah... I just ruined my rep by having to run away every time. 0 credits earned. No fun at all. Those missions are all screwed.

You will have to take lower level missions then. Stations have a difficulty level of the missions they hand out.

You know, 1,5M reward missions and above are against capitals... That's a basic knowledge. If you want to shoot with VHF I would sugges to use low reward missions. You get a lot of credits just by shooting NPC's(THAT'S THE OVERHAUL, not missions though)

Is there a chart or something somewhere that shows which stations offer which level missions or some other source of information I could consult?

You can try find out it in singleplayer, with use of console commands it would be fast enough to find comfortable missions.

Has anyone thought of adding additional bonuses ontop of the plugin?

For example.

1,000 Fighter Kills = 1,000,000 Credits Bonus
2,500 Fighter Kills = 3,000,000 Credits Bonus

100 Gunboat Kills = 1,000,000 Credits Bonus
1,000 Gunboat Kills = 5,000,000 Credits Bonus

100 Battleship Kills = 10,000,000 Credits Bonus

This is just an example and would probably need balancing ofcourse.

Found out fighter missions. They're undoable anyway. All of the ships just jump around all over the screen and it's impossible to hit them. Ehhh...

First round of payout tweaks is active as of this morning based on player feedback:
  • Gunboat bounty payout has been increased from $600,000 to $900,000.
    Gunboat missions were previously not worth doing, considering rank 19 fighters were worth $500,000 per kill and gunboats are significantly dangerous in solo missioning.
  • Cruiser bounty payout has been increased from $800,000 to $1,200,000.
    Cruiser payout needed to be bumped to match a linear increase from gunboats, as well as to make them more interesting in solo play.
  • Battlecruiser bounty payout has been increased from $1,200,000 to $1,800,000.
    Again, battlecruiser payout needed to be bumped, as well as to make it generally more worth taking missions against them.


I'm looking to rework gunboat NPCs to have more unified loadouts, since they're all over the place, as well as a general overhaul of fighter NPC loadouts and difficulties. I'm also thinking of ways to more accurately delineate different classifications of missions, though due to the arcane mess that is Freelancer's mission system, this may be extremely difficult to implement.

It's been good to hear feedback about the new PvE systems we're building. I'm looking forward to being able to continue this line of development for Discovery and to seeing what people think of what we come up with.

Honestly, one could dial back the cap bounties and re-add the Captains for use as an RP commodity. They're already paying out more per killed cap than they were before.

I, for one, will take shiny unique toys I need to physically loot from PVE over pure credits, if only to get some rewards for player-hosted events and such.
