Jonas Bonaparte was born on Planet Orleans to a wealthy family. His Father, Jacques Bonaparte, owned a trading company (Bonaparte Commerçant) that primarily ran between Planet New Paris and Planet Orleans. Unfortunately his ship was attacked by the Council when he was shipping merchandise for the Crown and when he refused to surrender the Crown's goods Jacques was killed. This event made a profound impact on young Jonas. He determined to avenge his father's death and to make the Council pay for their actions. With this end in mind he studied hard and received exemplary marks in school. Jonas graduated from the Université du Nouveau-Paris with a degree in Conception des Navires Avancés (advanced ship design). Upon receiving his degree Jonas enrolled in Entraînement au combat de base (Basic Combat training) where he was at the top of his class. Jonas then enrolled in Entraînement de bombardier avancé (Advanced Bomber training) where he also excelled. After his schooling and combat training Jonas began a career as a ship designer hoping that by making stronger Gallic ships he could help to destroy The Council. Jonas progressed rapidly in his career and eventually became the Head of Ship Design at Maintenon Shipyard. However the thought of avenging his father more actively weighed heavily on his mind and led Jonas to seek a commission with the Gallic Royal Navy.

Raphaël Clemenceau was born into a lower-upper class family. Never quite fitting in with the social politics his parents, along with his brothers and sisters, immersed themselves in, he made the choice to follow in his ancestor's footsteps immediately upon finishing primary schooling: he joined the military academy. Although he excelled in both his studies as well as martial prowess, he was nonetheless assigned to a backwater planetary garrison on Quillan. He yearned for more adventure and fulfillment, while his parents yearned for him to return to his home estate to take his place as part of the family business of winemaking. He loathed the prospect of becoming a vintner, and he had no taste for wine. His oldest brother, particularly, took umbrage with his refusal to comply (and possibly due to some jealousy over his brothers freedom and perceived bravery in joining the military) and drove a wedge between Raphaël and the family. Events transpired which led to an ultimatum being given: Return home now, or return home never again. Even the military pressured him to leave, as the right pockets had been lined. His refusal not only caused him to be disowned by his family, but also to be denied reenlistment with the military. Matters looked bleak indeed as Raphaël had no choice but to sign on as a merchant freighter crewman. As luck would have it, and uncle he'd never met learned of his plight... inspired by his breaking away from his family to follow his heart, his uncle (Martine Clemenceau) paid a courier to track him down and deliver a gift of goodwill, good luck, and enough credits to buy his own light fighter. From these humble beginnings, Raphaël Clemenceau has begun to make a name for himself as he takes whatever work he can get fighting on the Gallic frontier.

Quick background summary: Born to parents already overburdened by other children on a back-end colony on the ass end of Gallia, I spent much of my youth doing whatever I wanted when not forced to attend rudimentary schooling. Leaving as soon as I was legally able, I took whatever position I could to make it to the next port I wished to visit. Ending up at Monte Carlo, my eyes were awoken to the fact that people will pay you money to stand for their cause, even taking out others, if you have the skill to do so. Throwing myself in with a troop that didn't care where I came from, I spent the next several years developing my abilities on the ground(so to speak) and in space. I discarded my birth name and adopted the title "Raptor" amongst them, the only name I care to remember. I've earned my share of credits, but it's time for something more.

Lucie frowned at the computer screen. That useless prick Barbeau had been making a mess of recruitment lately, as well as browsing some inappropriate and frankly illegal neural net sites during work hours. His nasal, whining tone when he'd been asked to explain himself had annoyed her even further, and so Richard had been hauled off by a pair of burly guards, probably on his way to Fleury-Merogis. Good riddance, too.
Idly, Lucie brought up the latest application, her frown deepening more and more as she read through it. "Raptor", really? Seemed like all he cared about was money, too. He'd gotten the Grand Maréchal question wrong as well, although that was hardly his fault. Quétineau had only "left" recently, and the new Grand Maréchal hadn't bothered to update any of the paperwork yet.
She was tempted to send back a scathing denial, but the thought of "Raptor" and his Lynx exploding in a fiery, blazing mess was too sweet to ignore. There was no shortage of room for pilots at the front, anyway.
