Back in the days when I was young, there were things like mini-razors, but missiles still were something.
I still remember there was some issue about missiles being laggy / not working properly at a given high server load, though.
Missiles are far better now than they were in .85 or earlier, when a single well timed CD could counter them in duels and they would never hit in chase due to countermeasures. Now there's an 80% chance or so of them bypassing CMs entirely, and you need lightning fast reflexes to CD a 400 m/s sidewinder in time.

Thread number 153537 continues to defy Peto's Paradox, growing larger and more malignant by the second. I could perform surgery, but it would increase the risk of the tumor metastasizing. Better to let it stay where it is for now rather than excising it and letting it spill over into the rest of the forums. I think.
I'm going to bed now. I may have a look at the... Discoma? Forumoma? Before I leave tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'll have time. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. Durandal, lead art developer and senior balance developer, signing off.
Good luck with your interview, but please don't blame it on "cancerous" people here if it doesn't work out.
I should reiterate - I don't think there are very many toxic people on Discovery at all, contrary to popular staff belief. Congregations of angry people tend to drop in collective IQ points the larger they become, though. Any one person posting in this thread who is emotionally invested in it in any way is likely much more reasonable when spoken to in private. I know there's a word for this particular phenomenon, but unlike Peto's Paradox I can't pull the name out of my arse which I blame on being tired and on the medical and IT fields being my specialty, not any sort of social or psychological sciences.

Could we please leave sarcasm out of this especially if it comes from someone that has potential to fix it?

Lol. Well, I don't see the harm in re-implementing .85 missiles outside of potentially impacting server load. If somebody trades out all their guns for some awful missiles that are more likely to get them killed than anything else, I don't have a problem with it.

I think you mean 100% chance of them bypassing CMs, lets also not forget their range and tracking, which throws dodging them in any manner out of the equation.
They're ridiculous, 400 m/s is unCD able, which should not be the case. Missiles should be an aspect of the game, but I'd rather have something like starkillers that actually took more skill and timing to use than just mindlessly spamming sidewinders making aim completely irrelevant for you and the person you're getting shot by.
I have a video somewhere of me flying the old spatial with 3 cannonballs and 3 paralysers (or something like that) from back in the day.
Good times. Was fun. Either you did it correctly or you blew up

If you're speaking about the Starkiller & Sunslayer, then yes, I get why you were saying they're fun, but they were not great to the balance of the game. Ruthless tactics used by ye olde veteran PvPers which basically "missile-bended" the 20k damage load onto your ship in a near instant and without themselves getting damaged eliminated the "fun" from torpedoes.
An honorable mention are the instakill loadouts that used those torpedoes, this game doesn't need instakills unless it's clearly skill-based.
Not to mention the Starkiller which was basically a better Sidewinder.

Actually, they were offed from players who didn't. Mainly because the skill required to wield torpedoes and not die in PvP was too much of a demand from low skilled players. I enjoyed the old starkillers, so did several others.

The starkiller was nothing like the sidewinder, it carried more damage, but was CDable. It had far less m/s, tracking, range, and took more energy to fire. The reprecussions on starkillers made them skill based, sidewinders have almost no reprecussions.
