While we are at it, how about moving the main guns on the freighters to the rear where they are really needed instead of sitting in the front never getting used.

Having a CD and Torp mount will be useful. I agree with night.

Also, to avoid shield running, we can also do the following.

--We make cruise speed higher, say 500, but we increase the time that takes to go to cruise to something in the lines of 30 seconds or more. That way, if you hit cruise in battle, it will take so long to go cruise that it will be a bad idea as you are stuck at impulse and with no weapons while the engines charge up. That means that a hostile player will be plenty of time to blow you up while you try to engage cruise, hence making the usage of cruise to escape a bad idea.

I wouldn't suggest that for anything smaller than a Frigate, in my opinion. But it is a very workable solution, I think, for battleship shield running and whatnot.

I can say that I agree with the cruise engine charge time for the capships. It's an excellent idea. Then, there's no need for the 'Interdictor' Gun... Capships charge the cruise engines too fast anyway.

Nice one guys. Cruise idea excellent, you could take a whole battleship down in 30 seconds
if they are thinking about running. Not quite so sure about the speed on second thoughts,
its bad enough at 350 in an asteroid field, can you imagine 500. *eeek*
Still like the idea of the 'Interdictor weapon' being available, seen something similar before,
cant remember the mod though. This was a trade lane disruptor, and came in two versions
The Police one had one level, and was legal. The pirate version had twice the cost and the
range, but was illegal, meaning anytime you got scanned, you would get chased.
The ranges were 4k and 8k, possibly a little excessive for our balance here. But you get
the idea.
Could be adapted to be used as a cruise interuptor style weapon I feel, or in fact for both
in a limited way. Like to see this type of thing explored a little futher please. This drops any
need for two types of mount for torps and CDs, and makes you think a bit about your load
out too. Can you get away with loosing one energy weapon, in exchange for a CD style
one. Much fat to chew over ...

I think that having a gun like that would be really cool. And yes, the charge time of Cruise really needs to be increased, especialy for cap ships.

Also Hodlum, I think i saw a gun like that on 'Tegaki's Treasure' mod, That might be the one ur thinking of...

My suggestion was to apply it to all ships, from BS to Starflier...
High load time, but faster speed to compensate...

Or maybe 20 seconds, but 450 m/s... dunno

Having a speed like that would make any load time very helpful, save like 30+ seconds.

I think 20 would be good.

Is it currently at 5 right now?

If you guys need need an equation that will make the two different cruise speeds cover the same distance in a given time, to keep things even. Just let me know ( I need to know how to do that kind of stuff for my physics class. So it will help me study for the final!)

thats not a bod one actually, say that both engines would reach 10k at the same point, but the BS would be able to go faster in the long run
